About Gordon Fletcher and Sons
Gordon Fletcher and Sons was founded by Gordon Fletcher’s father, Thomas Atkinson Fletcher, who had originally worked with his uncle, Percy Byers in the same line of business. Then run for many years by Gordon Fletcher, who sadly passed away in March 2020.
In 1938 the business was set up at its present main office premises of Charles Street, Spennymoor, County Durham, where two of Gordon Fletcher’s sons, Peter & Colin, now serve as business principals.
The business has grown over the years, expanding with the building of additional premises at nearby Ferryhill, Co. Durham in 1997 and more recently at Newton Aycliffe, Co. Durham in November 2011. The Ferryhill location was originally a derelict church and after extensive refurbishment, it has been restored back to its original splendour. Our Spennymoor funeral home has also undergone extensive refurbishment. More recently, we have undertaken a large conversion and building project at our new premises, Cobblers Hall Village Centre, Newton Aycliffe.
Our fleets
We own and run two funeral fleets, the first being our most recent addition, a fleet of luxury Mercedes Benz, Hearse and two Limousines and a second of our existing Mercedes Hearse and Limousines.
We have recently added a fully restored 1955 Austin FX3 vintage hearse to our fleet.
One of only three known to be in the country, but the only one to have had a Full Restoration, which will be available for use on our own funerals, but may be hired out to other Funeral Directors around the country.
We also have designated removal vehicles for the discreet but dignified transportation of a loved one from their own homes, hospitals or hospices etc. into our care.
If you would like to talk to us about planning a funeral, please come and see us in our funeral home, or if you’d rather we can arrange a home visit. We’re also available 24 hours a day on the phone so if you need anything please don’t hesitate to call.
