Contacting Us
Your first step is to contact us, either by telephone or calling at our offices personally, this is when our Services start. We will take brief details, advise of the removal of the deceased back to our Private Chapels of Rest as soon as possible and arrange a convenient time for us to visit you at your home, or alternatively we can discuss the arrangements at our offices, whichever is more convenient to yourself.

The Service

Whether you wish Cremation or Burial, if you want a full service at the Crematorium Chapel or a Graveside Burial or if there will be a service in any particular church, chapel or any other religious or non-religious establishment prior to cremation or burial. Whereupon the relevant Vicar, Priest or Minister will be given your name, address and telephone number by us and in due course will contact you and make arrangements for a visit to discuss the service, etc.

Registration of Death
Registration of the death is the only aspect of the funeral arrangements we cannot do, you will need to do this personally. However, we will give you all the necessary advice needed for you to go to the Registrars to register the death. We will advise you which registrars to attend and if an appointment is necessary, where to pick up the death certificate prior to going, the documentation you will be required to take with you, what you will be asked and the forms and documents you will receive. If the Coroner is involved we will advise you on what will happen, the different procedure at the registrars and when you will be able to go, depending if an inquest is held.

Our Chapels of Rest
We will arrange transportation of the deceased to our Chapels of Rest, whether it be from own residence, hospital, nursing or care home in our local area, or even repatriation from across the country or from abroad. You know we will take care good care of your loved one. Once everything has been prepared we will give you a key for either our Spennymoor or Ferryhill Chapel of Rest, whereupon you will have 24hr access to our viewing rooms at your convenience.

Notices and Acknowledgements
We will advise and draft an Obituary notice for any local or national newspaper and after the funeral has taken place we will organise an Acknowledgement if required, in the same papers.

Transportation
We run two fleets of Coleman Milne, Ford Dorchester hearses and limousines. Eachl limousine holds up to 7 people and we can arrange for any number you may require. If you would like transportation arranged for larger numbers of family and friends, either to and from the church or from the church to the crematorium or cemetery, we can arrange the provision of a coach. Additionally, if you require the use of a horse-drawn hearse and mourners carriages this can also be arranged, but may need slightly more time to arrange.

Floral Tributes
We will advise on any floral tributes you require if desired, then arrange for them to be delivered to an appropriate address before the funeral cortege arrives, or to our premises prior to us leaving. Our florists, who are also a family owned and run local business whom we have used for the last 30 years, are of a very high standard and quality.

Catering
We can arrange for catering to be delivered to either the family home or a private establishment hired for the occasion. All the food is freshlt prepared on the morning and collected from a local family owned and run bakery, which again are renowned for their quality and very high standards.

Disbursements
We will arrange payment of all fees incurred on your behalf. They include all church, clergy, minister, crematorium or cemetery fees and doctors, repatriation, floral tributes and catering fees where applicable. These will be itemised separately, together with our fees on the actual invoice.

Costs
Whilst arranging the funeral we will advise on costs and charges to be incurred, including all disbursements, our charges and if requested, a typed and fully itmised estimate will be submitted as soon as we know your requirements. We are willing to discuss any costs with you, making sure that we endeavour to achieve the total costs to be within your means and that they meet your needs and families wishes.

Memorials
We can advise and put you in touch with our monumental mason, which again are a local family run business who we have used for over a decade. They will give you unbiased advice and free estimates for any work, whether it be a new memorial or additional inscriptionsor renovation to existing headstones.
